Outlook add-in extension management
The Insight Connector has been designed as a fully compliant MAPI client. Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) is a messaging architecture for Microsoft Windows. While many third-party software add-ins are available for Microsoft Outlook, not all of them are MAPI compliant. Because of this, non-compliant Outlook add-ins can interfere with the operation of Insight Connector.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 offer different methods for managing third party add-ins.

Outlook add-ins are often disabled when troubleshooting issues within Outlook. It is recommended that you disable add-ins, one at a time, for troubleshooting purposes. This will aid in determining which add-in is directly affecting the issue.

Some common reasons for disabling an Outlook add-in might be:
  • The installed add-in application did not come from a trustworthy source, and it needs to be disabled.
  • Odd or erratic behavior has recently been noticed in Outlook.
  • Performance issues with Outlook or Outlook has become unresponsive recently.
  • Outlook is crashing.
Note: For more information about troubleshooting Microsoft Outlook, please see the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940226
